During December I gave six presentations to high school students who were visiting the campus. My first four presentations were for the Washington County College and Career fair which was held here at WSCC and included 750 tenth grade students from six high schools in the Washington County area. Most of the students were not college prep and don't see themselves as attending college, for one reason or another. For this event, I gave a presentation called "Not Sure You Can Go to College" where I talked about college roadblocks and how to navigate obstacles.

November marked the start of my first quarter of Post Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) advising. I started with a few PSEO students and several Early Enrollment Program (EEP) students. After the third day of transitioning to advising, I started with a full schedule of appointments.

October has been a busy month filled with service day planning, additional advisor training, and WSCC's very first Homecoming. The AmeriCorps College Guides have all been working hard to make our second Service Day as successful as the first. With the Make a Difference Day EVE Benefit Dance kicking off the Homecoming week on Saturday, October 22nd, I worked very hard to make sure the event was publicized to the campus as well as the community. This event was a great opportunity for us as it allowed the OCG's a chance to partner more with WSCC based groups. We worked very closely with the WSCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, as well as the One Step Ahead Group.

I can hardly believe how quickly the month of September has gone by. You would think I’d be used to time slipping through my hands like dry sand, but it always seems to surprise me. I feel we have come a long way since last year in regards to the AmeriCorps program here at WSCC. This month has made me even more excited about the prospect of continued growth and improvement for AmeriCorps in the community.

My first month as a second year AmeriCorps College Guide is complete and I can already hardly believe the differences. The first week here consisted almost entirely of training. We had a real host site orientation, which even included information and training that applied specifically to the two second year members. I felt very lost my first week here last year. I was very unsure I would learn everything needed to perform this job to my high standards. The majority of my first month was spent sitting in my office reading everything I could find about the school and trying to pick up as much of the lingo and procedures of the college that I could find. Though I have already spent a year on this campus, I did learn a lot of very useful information during the training sessions I attended this month.

President Ebersole Challenges WSCC Students to Stay on Track for Graduation...Agree to Complete

20140717 jessica harlowWashington State Community College (WSCC) is making preparations for a Special Registration Week which runs July 21-25. Amanda Herb, MBA, Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success at WSCC, stresses the importance of registering before August; "Many people aren't aware of the time that it takes to complete the enrollment process." It's imperative for continuing students to stay on track for completion. This week is the perfect time for adult and continuing students to come in and register for classes. The staff and faculty will be on hand throughout the week to advise and assist students with scheduling and registration questions. Dr. Bradley Ebersole, WSCC President, in a recent call to current WSCC students who have not registered for fall semester, challenged them to "agree to complete!" WSCC invites the community to visit and tour the campus, enjoy hot dogs, popcorn, games, and fun family events during the week. Take part in the WSCC "Selfie Photo Contest" on campus and win a prize! If you are looking for a fun way to exercise, meet new people, and earn college credit, then stop by to learn more about WSCC's recreational courses such as Zumba, Strength Training, Karate, and Cardio-kickboxing.

WSCC...A Great Place to Expand Your Mind!

Washington State Community College (WSCC) is highlighting it's Liberal Arts & Sciences Division as a part of the college's new marketing campaign. In June, WSCC's Marketing and Public Relations Department began showcasing each of the school's divisions. Profiles of faculty members and graduates from the divisions can be seen on TV Channel 22 and www.wscc.edu. There are many advantages to a student choosing a Liberal Arts & Sciences program at WSCC. Classes have smaller student/faculty ratio, typically 16/1. Students will get an affordable quality education at a convenient location in Marietta, Ohio. The 78 (18 full time, 60 part time) faculty members are highly qualified; 10% of the faculty have doctorate degrees. Perhaps the biggest advantage would be that the TAG (transfer assurance guides) and TM (transfer modules) guarantees 100% automatic transfer to any Ohio public colleges and universities. Washington State Community College Liberal Arts & Sciences Division also offers to students a wide variety of extracurricular activities such as Drama Club, Science Club and Social Justice Club. An Honors program is an up and coming program for the Arts & Sciences Division. The A&S Division helps make WSCC the college of first choice for students who are looking for a seamless pathway to a four year degree.
