WSCC Foundation holds Scholarship Recognition Reception
The Washington State Community College Foundation is proud to announce that 50 scholarships were awarded during its Scholarship Recognition Reception on Thursday, Sept. 29. Over 30 students received the various scholarships, totaling $58,000.
Through the generosity of donors, the WSCC Foundation currently offers more than $72,000 annually in student scholarships, according to Gail Reynolds, Foundation executive director.
Ginny Jones was awarded the Lousie Eagleson Holmes Business Scholarship, which will assist in paying for books. She says, during the reception, she was surprised to see the large amount of available scholarships.
"Some were specific to a certain field and some were based on merit," explains Jones, "Overall the Recognition Reception was really nice. It was a new and interesting experience for me and I got to meet lots of other students."
Jones is a wife, mother of two daughters, a firm believer in the power of education, and a full-time student in the Associate of Applied Business degree, accounting program. Her goal is to become an accountant in a firm after graduation, and hopes that her determination to do well in school and receive her college degree will become an inspiration to her daughters.
