WSCC President Establishes New Scholarship
During the November 4th Inauguration Ceremony, Washington State Community College's new President, Dr. Bradley J. Ebersole, announced that he and his wife Gail Ebersole are establishing a new scholarship with the WSCC Foundation, the President's Scholarship for Leadership Development.
"Leadership has been, and always will be, an important factor in human affairs," said Ebersole. "Developing and cultivating leadership potential and skills in rising individuals is critical to the future of business, public service, education, and to a community."
The Ebersoles contributed $1,000 to start the scholarship, which is designed to support the academic and workplace goals of students who demonstrate leadership interests and potential. The scholarship recipient will also meet with Dr. Ebersole and a CEO of a local or regional company, twice each term.
Foundation Executive Director Gail Reynolds comments on the new scholarship, "The President's Scholarship for Leadership Development offers opportunities for students that go way beyond classroom studies. It provides interaction with established community business leaders who have created successful enterprises through their ability to strategize, motivate, and react appropriately to change. Those are lessons that cannot be learned without hands-on experience."
The scholarship will be awarded each spring to first-year students expecting to continue in their degree program in the upcoming fall semester. This encourages degree completion as well as supports students who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential. Scholarship recipients can apply the award to tuition, fees, and books.
The President's Scholarship for Leadership Development is the newest of over forty scholarships the WSCC Foundation established since 2003. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation whose funds and donations are held separately from those of the College and used exclusively to support the College's mission. Foundation funds support, but are not limited to: scholarships, academic initiatives, equipment acquisition, campus programs, community outreach, and capital improvements.
Anyone can donate any amount to the Foundation. Donors can designate a gift to a specific fund or scholarship, such as the President's Scholarship for Leadership Development. Checks can be made payable to the WSCC Foundation, or you can call 740.568.1940 for more information on how to donate.
