September - Reflection
I can hardly believe how quickly the month of September has gone by. You would think I’d be used to time slipping through my hands like dry sand, but it always seems to surprise me. I feel we have come a long way since last year in regards to the AmeriCorps program here at WSCC. This month has made me even more excited about the prospect of continued growth and improvement for AmeriCorps in the community.
The members completed our first service day for 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. The success of this event already far out stripped that of last years. Not only did we have greater interest in our kick off memorial service, we also collected over 640 items for soldier care packages. I believe that is more than we collected all of last year; which is simply astounding.
I also think my professional development is off to a much better start this year. Somehow last year I lost my confidence. The fear of not getting accepted to graduate schools and generally feeling lost about what to do next in life sneaked up on me from nowhere and caught me off guard.
Now I am aware of the fear, I can work to keep it in check. I'm going to apply to the schools that truly interest me and do my best to convey my abilities. I'm confident I'll find the right school and the right program.
