Phi Theta Kappa Sponsors Voter Registration Tables on Campus
Washington State Community College’s Alpha Rho Gamma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa – a two-year college academic honor society – is sponsoring voter registration tables on campus and encouraging fellow students to register to vote for the upcoming election.
Student volunteers from Phi Theta Kappa are staffing the tables, located on the second floor of the Arts & Sciences Building and the Commons in the Main Building. “Peggy Byers from the Washington County Board of Elections was with us on Monday and showed us how to do the registrations and answer any questions,” says Judy Bonnette, a Washington State Community College (WSCC) student and chapter president of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).
The registration tables will run from September 18 – 20 and September 24 – 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who register before October 9th are able to vote in the upcoming November election.
“This is a Presidential election year and we want to try and register students, encourage them to vote, and become good citizens of the United States,” explains Brad Merritt, WSCC business professor and PTK faculty advisor. “This provides a service to the community and the concept of service is very important to Phi Theta Kappa and especially our Alpha Rho Gamma chapter, as community service is one of our hallmarks.”
