"Fall into WSCC" with Homecoming 2012: Oct. 26 - Nov. 2
Alumni and students are “falling into WSCC” at Washington State Community College’s Second Annual Homecoming. The 2012 Homecoming, October 26 through November 2, includes activities for alumni, families, students, and the community.
“We started doing Homecoming celebrations last fall and hope this event will become an annual campus tradition that will continue to grow,” says Carrie Thrash, assistant director of admissions. “WSCC Homecoming is a great way for us to celebrate our students, history, and service to the local community.”
Homecoming opens up on Friday, October 26 with Spirit Day; everyone around campus is encouraged to wear WSCC colors of green and white to show school spirit. Alumni, students, faculty, staff, family and friends are also invited to attend Washington State Community College’s first basketball game of the year, held at West Virginia University- Parkersburg at 7 p.m.
On Monday, October 29, the Student Senate Officer election begins with current WSCC students voting for Student Senate officers for the 2012-13 academic year. A ballot box is located at the reception desk in the Main Building.
A Pink Pumpkin Contest on Tuesday, October 30, will raise money for the American Cancer Society. WSCC students and employees are invited to bring in a pumpkin decorated in pink. Others can vote for their favorite by making a monetary donation, with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.
The Halloween spirit invades the WSCC Homecoming on Wednesday, October 31, with an Office Decorating Contest and Student Costume Contest. Faculty and staff offices around campus will be theme decorated, with a traveling trophy awarded for first place. Students are invited to take part in a costume contest in the Commons at 11:30 a.m. A trophy is awarded to the overall winner and certificates given to top winners in categories including: Prettiest, Scariest, Ugliest, and Funniest.
On Thursday, November 1, Student Senate Officer Election winners are announced. Additionally, Student Services is planning an event to be “stoked” about with a variety of free drinks from the Marietta coffee shop “Stoked” served at 9 a.m. in the Commons. WSCC President Dr. Bradley Ebersole will be a celebrity server for the event.
From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. students will get a relaxing break from classes with Wii games available to in the Community Room.
The WSCC Homecoming comes to a close on Friday, November 2, with Family Movie Night. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, family, and friends are invited to gather for a movie showing. It starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Graham Auditorium in the Arts & Sciences Building.
