WSCC Welcomes Four New AmeriCorps Members

Washington State Community College (WSCC) starts the 2013-2014 academic school year with four new AmeriCorps College Guides and three returning guides, who will assist in various departments across the campus. This marks the fourth year WSCC has hosted AmeriCorps members in the College Guides program. Our four new guides are David (Dave) Landers, Zach Marion, Ben Blackwell, and Brandon Ferguson.

David (Dave) Landers (Marietta, OH) is an Integrated Social Studies Education major at Ohio University works within the Morgan County Learning Center.

Zach Marion (Marietta, OH) is an English and Creative Writing major from Ohio University and works within the Student Service Department.

Ben Blackwell (Massillon, OH) is a Bible major from Ohio Valley University and is working within the Center for Student Success.

Brandon Ferguson (Canton, OH) is a Communication major from Marietta College and is working within the Engineering Department.

Our returning AmeriCorps guides are Ethan Kirl, Katie Blackwell, and Heather Saling.

Ethan Kirl (Mineral Wells, WV) is a Biblical Studies major from Ohio Valley University, works within the Health Sciences academic department.

Katie Blackwell (Vienna, WV) also comes from Ohio Valley University as a Biblical Studies major and is working with the Upward Bound program for high school students, as well as Educational Talent Search.

Heather Saling (Caldwell, OH) is a Speech and Hearing Science Major from The Ohio State University and works within the Student Services Department.

The AmeriCorps College Guides will be sponsoring a 9/11 Memorial Service in honor of National Day of Service and Remembrance next week. Community members, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend the service which will take place on campus by the flag pole at the main entrance. The flag raising ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11th. Donations will be collected for active duty soldiers at the memorial service and during the week of September 8th - 13th.
