The Evergreen Arts & Humanities Series of Washington State Community College (WSCC) is proud to present Yu Wei – An Evening of Solo Chinese Dance. This event will be held on November 16th at 7:30pm at Graham Auditorium on the WSCC campus.

Yu Wei has been described as "a brilliant dance star" that infuses her performances with intense emotion and astonishingly beautiful movements. She has danced since she was a young child, perfecting her skills over the entirety of her life. This extreme dedication has culminated in recognition from all over the world. While she is classically trained in Chinese dance, her fluid movements transcend borders and stun audiences. After attending one of her performances Merilyn Jackson of the Philadelphia Inquirer stated, "Yu Wei took everyone's breath away with her dance 'Lotus – Burst of Pure Dream.' Lying on her back with her head to the audience, she depicted how a lotus unfolds. It was pure beauty."

Yu Wei has been in the United States since moving to Philadelphia in February of 2000. During her time in the U.S., she has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and the Manhattan Center in New York City. She was also selected to perform for Philadelphia's Musicopia and the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour.

Tanya Wilder, Director of the Evergreen Arts & Humanities Series, explained that Yu Wei "tells her story through dance". She is able to masterfully combine Chinese Traditional and folk dance with elements of western ballet and modern dance. She pairs these aspects with short films to create a dynamic performance that holds a great artistic power over the audience. Yu Wei takes elements of nature and uses them to form the basis of the different segments throughout her performance. Yu Wei sees this not only as a form of expression, but also as a way to bring cultures together. She stated that, "I want to share my knowledge and experience of dance with other people, and bring the difference and richness of Chinese dance art to the western world." For those who want to enjoy a truly breathtaking experience, please come out to the upcoming performance by Yu Wei in the Graham Auditorium on November 16th at 7:30pm. This event is free and open to the public. Advance seat pass reservations can be made by calling or emailing Tanya Wilder at 740-374-8716 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
