Donate your Non-Perishable Food Items to the AmeriCorps Martin Luther King Jr. Food Drive
Local high school students are working in conjunction with the AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides serving at Washington State Community College (WSCC) to raise donations for the Marietta Community Food Pantry. AmeriCorps members and area high school students in the TRiO Upward Bound program will be going door to door in the Marietta community to collect non-perishable food items. The program will actually begin Monday, January 13th. Households between East Montgomery Street and Putnam Avenue from 2nd Street to North 7th Street will receive informational flyers at their door. Households that receive a flyer are encouraged to leave non-perishable food items out to be collected between 10:00am and 12:00pm on Saturday, January 18th.
The event will take place the weekend before Martin Luther King Jr. Day in order to honor Dr. King's memory as well as to commemorate all of the community service that was an integral part of Dr. King's legacy. The AmeriCorps Guides and local high school students highly encourage you to donate to the Marietta Community Food Pantry, located in the First Congregational Church. This wonderful organization has provided food for neighbors in need for over 30 years. If you do not live in the designated pick up zone, you may still participate by contacting Katey Blackwell by phone at 740.374.8716 ext. 1546 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org by January 17th. All donations will go to local families in need.
