WSCC Foundation Awards 2014 Distinguished Alumni: Dr. George H. McAfee (’87) and Susan D. Strauss (’93)
On Saturday, May 10th during an alumni reception, the Washington State Community College Foundation will announce winners for this year's Distinguished Alumnus Award to two former WSCC students, George H. McAfee ('87) and Susan d. Strauss ('93). The award is split into two categories: Outstanding Professional Achievement and Outstanding Community Service & Volunteerism.
The Distinguished Alumni Selection Committee is made up former Distinguished Alumnus winners, as well as representatives from the WSCC Alumni & Friends Association. Nominators from the community submit an application for an alumnus to be considered.
Dr. George H. McAfee graduated from Washington State Community College in 1987 with an Associates of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology degree. He received a bachelor degree from Bowling Green State University in 1992, a master degree from University of Findlay in 1996, and a Ph.D. from the California Intercontinental University in 2011. Dr. McAfee is the recipient of the 2014 Washington State Community College Distinguished Alumni Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement through his pursuit of enterprise-wide operational excellence and is recognized as a passionate leader driven to excel and inspire others to reach
Susan D. Strauss graduated from Washington State Community College in 1993 with an Associate of Individual Studies degree, majoring in Secretarial Science. She is the recipient of the 2014 Washington State Community College Distinguished Alumni Award for Outstanding Community Service. Susan receives this award in recognition of her passion, enthusiasm, and dedication reflected in a lifetime of community service to a variety of community organizations including MOV Dragon Boat, Marietta Welfare League, Bright Pink, her church, and many personal kindnesses to benefit others.
The winners of the Distinguished Alumnus awards will be presented during Washington State Community College's 42 annual Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, May 10th.
