22nd Annual YES Days at WSCC
Local Businesses and Educators Continue Commitment to Encouraging Local Youth to Pursue Careers in Science and Technology
The 22nd Annual Yes Days program took place on May 15th and 16th at Washington State Community College, with over 600 participating 7th graders from Washington and Morgan County schools.
The YES Days program is intended to get students interested in science and engineering. The program gives students the opportunity to look at local businesses and how they incorporate science and engineering. It is a fun, hands-on approach to science. Dr. Dean Hirschi, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Washington State Community College, said that the YES Days program takes the "non-broccoli" approach to teaching students about science and engineering.
The program attracts 7th graders from many local schools including, Frontier Middle School, Marietta Middle School, Fort Frye, Barlow-Vincent, St. Mary's, Belpre, Warren, Little-Hocking, Waterford, and St. John's. These students get to see many local businesses in action at the different displays and activities throughout the two day program.
