Washington State Community College has welcomed several new employees over the past few months. Since November of 2012, 11 new faces have been added to the campus staff. Our most recent hire, Nicole Crump, is taking charge of a brand new position: Assistant Director of Admissions—Adult Learners and Career Services. In this position, Crump will be reaching out to adults who are 25 and older to inform them about how they can achieve their career goals through college education. She will also be collaborating with career services to help current WSCC students research job opportunities so they will be prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation. Future plans for the position include résumé writing workshops, and in-class information sessions covering best practices for job searching and career preparation. Crump is strongly committed to promoting quality education and workforce skills throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley. "I am excited to help people in our area pursue their career goals through educational opportunities at Washington State Community College," says Crump. "Starting an education at Washington State allows students to save money, gain valuable skills which can lead to employment, or work toward a bachelor's degree," she adds.

The competition, which was held at WSCC's campus, attracted 46 high school students from area career centers. The event provided a venue for all student participants to demonstrate their talents in selected technical fields. "This was a great event for the Career Center students," says Brenda Kornmiller, Dean of Business, Engineering, and Industrial Technologies. Dean Kornmiller went on to discuss how the event has evolved. "We have worked with the Washington County Career Center for years by hosting the automotive competition," she notes, "and this year we added five new competitions." This year's event included the debut of crime scene investigation, criminal justice, architectural drafting, precision machining, and technical drafting competitions, along with the return of the automotive services competition.
