Legal Administrative Assistant
Are you interested in working in a legal office environment? The legal administrative assistant major emphasizes administrative skills essential to the legal office, with a strong emphasis on legal terminology, legal office procedures, and legal document processing. You will learn to create and format business correspondence, newsletters, spreadsheets, databases, and slideshow presentations in the correct business format. You also will become proficient with current software packages, while developing business editing and proofreading skills.
The administrative assistant will become proficient in many areas including:
- Transcribing, creating and formatting legal correspondence
- Using current software packages
- Developing interpersonal skills
- Recognizing cultural differences
Students in the legal administrative assistant program will study the following:

- Desktop publishing
- Windows concepts
- Professional business concepts
- Legal office procedures
- Business editing/proofreading
- Voice recognition - Dragon Naturally Speaking

- Criminal law and procedures

- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Access
- Microsoft Excel
Students holding the MOS certification may be eligible for advanced placement.

Legal administrative assistant program graduates find careers as legal secretaries and legal administrative assistants in law offices, court systems, government offices, or any area dealing with the law.
They often continue education to become more efficient in the ever changing workplace. Opportunities for graduates include a competitive starting salary with potential to continue your education and earn a bachelor's degree.
