Medical Transcription

Interested in a medical career? Not only doctors and nurses are needed in the medical profession. In medical
transcription, you will gain knowledge in understanding physician's reports and a wide variety of hospital reports.

You also will gain various skills needed for the fast-paced office environment.

Program Goals:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of current software packages available in today's office environment.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment in a high-paced office environment.
  • Develop good interpersonal skills that will reflect human relations and development of a positive attitude for the office environment.
  • Demonstrate professional work habits such as: punctuality, productivity, verbal and written communication skills, cooperation with fellow workers, and working within the structure of a modern office environment.
  • Explain professional awareness and the importance of confidentiality.
  • Explain the value of lifelong learning through formal and informal experiences in an effort to stay current with employment skills.

Students in the medical administrative assistant program will study the following:

  • Medical Billing
  • Introduction to ICD-9/CPT coding
  • Medical Transcription I, II
  • Medical Office Procedures
  • Medical Terminology I, II
  • Pharmacological Terminology

Students holding the MOS certification may be eligible for advanced placement.
