Certificate programs at Washington State are designed as one-year programs that lead to direct employment. As an additional option, students can use credit earned in the certificate programs towards an associate degree at Washington State.

Accounting

The accounting program provides a concentration of financial and managerial accounting with related business and technology courses, utilizing manual and computerized accounting systems and current software.

Automotive Service

Our Automotive Service program features a large laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment for practical, hand-on experience. Students learn the use of conventional tools, as well as the new computerized engine analyzers. A certificate in automotive technician is available to those students who complete the first year of the program.

The Automotive Service Technology and the Diesel Truck Systems Programs are fully accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). The primary mission of NATEF is to improve the quality of automotive technician training programs nationwide through voluntary accreditation. NATEF is responsible for the program evaluation process and approves programs for NATEF Accreditation based on the results of the on-site evaluation.

Design Drafting

Washington State’s Design Drafting Certificate program will provide you with the technical know-how you’ll need to begin a career in design drafting. You’ll learn how to assist with design and communicate the ideas graphically with engineers, architects, contractors, fabricators, and all of the others involved in the various stages of product development. Because of the wide variety of fields in which a design drafter may be involved, this degree program contains elements of many types of design. You will become familiar with disciplines such as machining, piping, electricity, construction, design, fabrication, and manufacturing. You will get hands-on experience with the tools of the trade, both on paper and on computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems.

Diesel Truck Maintenance

If you are interested in Diesel Truck Maintenance but would like to finish in a shorter time frame, we offer the Diesel Truck Maintenance One-year Certificate. This certificate provides the foundation for an entry-level technician to gain employment in a myriad of industries, e.g., transportation, boats, trains, buses etc. According to a 2010 Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report, employment opportunities will see a 15 percent increase for the need for qualified diesel technicians by the year 2020.

EKG Technology

EKG Technology Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians. You will learn how to perform electrocardiogram tests in order to monitor and record electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. These tests include basic EKGs, Holter Monitoring, 12-lead placement, and Stress Tests.

This is also a valuable certification for other health care practitioners who want to add to their skillsets for a more robust portfolio. Coursework will include important practice and background information on anatomy of the heart, physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, arrhythmia monitoring, and stress testing. Students will gain practical experience on equipment, as well as get hands-on lab training.  

This is a three course program that is only offered during our Summer Semester.

This program emphasizes administrative skills essential to any professional office career. You will become proficient with current software packages while developing business editing and proofreading skills.

Massage Therapy

The Massage Therapy program is offered as a 1-year full-time day program. Graduates of the program receive a certificate of completion, and are eligible to sit for the MBLEx National Test. To become a Licensed Massage Therapist in Ohio you must first pass the exam before applying to the state for licensure.

Medical Coding

The skills required to fulfill the need of fast-paced, every-growing health coding facilities can be obtained through the Medical Coding Certificate of Completion. Students will complete intensive coursework in Anatomy & Physiology I and II, CPT Coding, ICD Coding, and Principles of Reimbursement.

Peace Officer Basic Academy (POBA)

Successful completion of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission's (OPOTC) certified Peace Officer Basic Academy (POBA) program is a requirement for employment as a law enforcement professional in Ohio.

Petroleum Technician (Not accepting new students)

Petroleum technicians provide support to scientists and engineers in exploring and extracting natural resources, such as minerals, oil, and natural gas. This certificate prepares students for an array of jobs relating to shale exploration and development. The program builds on a solid foundation of basic petroleum and engineering skills as well as being able to apply this knowledge through experiences in civil drafting, surveying, computer-aided drafting (CAD), and geographic information systems (GIS).

Pharmacy Technician (Not accepting new students)

Pharmacy Technicians work in pharmacies under the direction of a pharmacist. Their main responsibility is filling prescriptions according to doctors’ orders. Pharmacy Technicians prepare medications for dispensing to patients. This generally includes retrieving drugs in the correct dosage form and strength, measuring the appropriate amount of drug, and producing a prescription label. Pharmacy Technicians work with drugs to be administered orally, topically, for the eye, nose, etc. Depending upon the practice setting, a Pharmacy Technician is also involved in the mixture of drugs for intravenous use.

Powersports Technician

Motorcycle, ATVs and UTVs are gaining popularity throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley. Upon completion of the Powersports Technician Training program, you will be able to attain an entry-level job as a technician. JobsOhio shows a 15.3% increase in positions for "Motorcycle Mechanics" and a 4.2% increase for "outdoor power equipment and small engine mechanics".

Practical Nursing Education

The Practical Nursing program is offered as either 1-year full-time day, or 2-year part-time evening classes. During the program, your studies will include both classroom and clinical experiences. Your classroom instruction will be enhanced by concurrent clinical participation at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Selby General Hospital, Harmar Place, and Heartland of Marietta. Additionally, you will gain experience through observational time with home nursing, nursery schools, physician offices, and clinics.

Welding

This one-year hands-on certificate will prepare you to enter the workforce as a certified plate or pipe welder and an experienced fitter or layout person. You will also be taught how to properly operate a carbon arc gouge and a variety of other tools used in the welding/construction field. Safety will be stressed the entire program.
