Radiologic Technology

Radiologic Technologists are specially trained health care professionals who assist radiologists by producing radiographs used to diagnose pathology and injury. The technologist provides patient care and uses technology to provide quality health care to the patient.
Program
The two-year Radiologic Technology Program is a Marietta Memorial Hospital sponsored Certificate Award program with articulation with Washington State Community College for the OPTIONAL A.A.S. degree. "RADT" courses begin each fall and consists of eight consecutive quarters of study. "RADT" Didactic courses are held at Washington State; labs and clinical rotations are held at Marietta Memorial, St. Joseph's, and Camden-Clark Memorial Hospitals. Students complete the program in August of their second year. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the ARRT national certification exam to become a Registered Radiologic Technologist. All Non-"RADT" courses are open enrollment classes and may be completed prior to entering the program.

The program generally follows Washington State Community College's academic calendar with two Directed Radiology Practice (INTERSESSION) courses taking place between certain quarters. The Directed Radiology Practice courses provide clinical experience through a weekly rotation of 40 hours.
Mission
The mission of the program is to graduate competent, entry-level radiographers.

Admission
College admission does not constitute program admission. The prospective Radiologic Technology student must follow the PROGRAM application procedure.
Admission to the Radiologic Technology Program is limited and selective. Selection is based on the applicant's academic background (50%) and the professional opinion of a selection committee (50%).
There are specific prerequisites with deadlines that must be met for eligibility to apply for PROGRAM admission.
Radiologic Technology course requirements
Prerequisites to apply for admission to program:
- Introductory courses in biology, chemistry and algebra at the high school or college level with a final course grade of "C" or better in each course (minimum of 1 credit).
- ACT composite score of 17 or better (SAT not accepted).
- The student must be at least 18 years of age by the first day of program orientation (September).
The prospective PROGRAM applicant needs to:
- File a Washington State Community College general application form with "Radiologic Technology" listed as the anticipated degree.
- Make an appointment with WSCC to take, and complete ALL SECTIONS of the college placement test.
- Submit (a) a written request for an "on-site" informational session and interviews, (b) provide high school and/or college transcripts showing a completed grade of "C" or better in ALGEBRA, BIOLOGY, and CHEMISTRY [minimum of 1 credit], and (c) an ACT Composite score of 17 (SAT not accepted) or better.
Everything must be submitted together in a 9" X 12" mailing envelope to Paul Richards, RADT Program Director, Washington State Community College, 710 Colegate Drive, Marietta, OH 45750 as soon as possible after December 1. The applicant will receive program application instructions/materials at the informational session.
The program can process a limited number of applications each year. The application process will close at 4:00 p.m. on the deadline date OR when the maximum number of program applications that can be processed have been received, whichever occurs first. The applicant is advised to apply as early as possible after December 1, to assure consideration for placement.
