A degree in Social Services is typically a pathway to the social work profession. A career in Social Services is one of the most rewarding and challenging. These professionals are dedicated to helping people function to the best of their ability in their own environment.

While enrolled in our classes, you will learn how to help individuals, groups, families, organizations, and communities enhance or restore their ability for social functioning and to generate societal conditions favorable to their goal. You will also learn to develop relationships with clients to help them understand their environment, make choices, and influence their life situations through organization and advocacy.

The Social Services Technology program is a 2-year program. Our graduates gain an Associate in Applied Science degree in social services for direct employment after completion of the program.

The curriculum includes classroom studies as well as actual field experience with local mental health agencies during the second year of the program. This participation allows you to apply classroom theory to actual case knowledge. The skills you will learn include how to engage, assess, intervene, and evaluate the uniquely different types of people and groups. You will also learn how to properly collect, organize, and prioritize clients assessment information in order to develop progress reports, social histories, case treatment plans, and closing summaries.

The program will prepare you to assist individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities with a wide variety of issues such as child welfare, mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, alcohol abuse, and more.

The program also offers a Baccalaureate Preparation track — you complete your first 60 credits here, then transfer to an accredited (by the Council on Social Work Education) college for an additional 60 credits, to ultimately earn a bachelor's degree in the field of social work.
