Student Support

Washington State has lots of free services to help students succeed!

Located in the Arts and Sciences Building, the Learning Center is the place to go for additional help with your classes.  We are open from 7:30 to 7:30 Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 to 4:30 on Fridays.

Based in the Learning Center:

  • Opportunity Scholars Program - A TRIO support program that provides specialized support programs for students to help towards graduation or transfer.
  • Retention Coordinator - David Scheimann is always willing to try to help you out with issues that interfere with your goal of getting a degree or certificate and moving on to a better life.  The Retention Coordinator has access to tons of resources that may help you to succeed while you're here in college.  Click here to contact David.
  • Tutoring program - The Learning Center offers free individual and group tutoring for WSCC students in all subject areas.  We also have 24-hour a day online tutoring available for some classes--click here to contact the Learning Center for more information!
  • Walk-in academic labs/support services - provide quick access to help in any math or writing classes offered at the college.  Labs start the second week of class and run from 10 AM to 1 AM and 4 PM to 6 PM Monday through Thursday.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) lab -flexible hours, and tutors are usually on staff from 9 AM to 6PM Monday through Thursday.
  • Supplementary computer lab - ten station computer lab open to all students while the Learning Center is open.
  • Disability services - ensures equal access to all college programs and activities for students with disabilities.
  • Brain Injury Association of Ohio -a non-profit organization located in A&S 103, offers specialized support for students and individuals with brain injury, their caregivers and providers, along with prevention education for our community.  For additional information contact Cindy Auker or visit the website.
  • Calculator Loans - The Learning Center has a number of TI-83 calculators that can be borrowed for an entire quarter at a time.  Visit David Scheimann in the Learning Center to sign up--but hurry, these are given away on a first come basis!
  • Make-up testing - depending on individual faculty policy, some instructors allow students to make up missed tests.  Students taking these make-up tests must provide photo identification, and must allow enough time to complete the test before the Learning Center closes for the day.

Help Desk

The Help Desk, on the second floor of the Arts & Sciences building, is your technology resource.  The computer lab has twenty computers available from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Friday.  Computer support is also available during that time.

The help desk staff can help you navigate MyWSCC to access your email, web advisor, or online courses, and can answer many other technical questions.
