2017 Criminal Justice Youth Academy

The Center for Public Safety Training at Washington State Community College presents its annual Criminal Justice Youth Academy. This academy will familiarize participants with law enforcement practices and the criminal justice community through classroom, field and interactive activities. Students entering grades 9 through 12 will experience a variety of supervised law enforcement demonstrations and visit the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy in London, OH.

This academy will run 9AM to 3PM on June 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 (hours on the field trip to London, OH will be 9AM to approximately 5PM). Students will be required to bring their own lunch each day. A cafeteria with hot, reasonably priced food is available at OPOTA.

Demonstrations will be conducted by:

  • the Marietta Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol on a variety of safety issues
  • the Washington County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team (SRT) at the Fort Harmar Rifle Club's outdoor gun range
  • the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at their vast indoor and outdoor law enforcement training facilities

This Academy is intended to give interested youths insight into a career in law enforcement and the criminal justice field. As such, rules governing behavior, dress and attention will be strictly enforced throughout the academy.

Interested parents are encouraged to contact John Burdette (info below) for additional information or with their questions.
