Fine Arts Transfer - Studio Art

The Fine Arts Transfer program provides a foundation for you to pursue further study in visual art, including studio art, graphic art, computer graphics, game design, and industrial design.

The Studio Art major includes study of art history, drawing, painting, photography, design and composition, as well as core courses in English, social and behavioral sciences, natural science, communication, and arts and humanities.

Transferring as a true junior into a baccalaureate program in fine art might require more than two years of preparation. Therefore, you should work closely with your academic advisor, department chair, or the director of advising and transfer to tailor your program for transfer to the institution of their choice, and should consult that institution's catalog requirements early in your program.

Program Goals

The goals of the Fine Arts Transfer program at Washington State focus on providing instruction and experiences that will allow graduates to successfully transfer to institutions that offer either the four-year Bachelor of Arts or the five-year Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.

Graduates of the program will:

  1. Meet the general education requirements of the college and be prepared to transfer as a junior in their area of concentration.

  2. Demonstrate the application of a system or methodology for art making.

  3. Be able to define, explain, and apply the perceptual skills used in art making.

  4. Be able to define, explain, and apply the conceptual skills used in art making.

  5. Demonstrate the possession of analytical skills necessary for problem solving, critical thinking, and art making.

  6. Be able to make, communicate, and defend critical judgments based on knowledge of historical and contemporary practice.
