Tutoring

The Washington State Community College Tutoring Program offers free individual and group tutoring to students in all subjects. Students having difficulty with course work are encouraged to stop by the Center for Student Success as early in the term as possible for information about tutoring and other academic support services. Students can print out the Application to Receive Tutoring, complete it and return it to the Center for Student Success.

Academic Labs

In addition to individual and group tutoring, the Tutoring Program coordinates the campus Math and Science and Writing Labs. The labs, located in the Center for Student Success, provide brief walk-in assistance and answers to your questions at no charge to students needing assistance with any math, science, or composition course offered at the college.

Lab hours are Monday through Thursday from 10:00-1:00 and 4:00-6:00 in the evening. Labs are open during Fall and Spring semesters beginning the second week of each semester.

eLabs at WSCC

eLabsThe Center for Student Success offers email tutoring services for students Here's how things work:

  1. A student can send a question or writing submission to one of our three eLabs.

  2. The Center for Student Success lab tutors will receive the email and respond. Lab tutors work Monday through Thursday, 10-1 and 4-6, and will reply as quickly as they are able. Please note that any submissions sent over the weekend can not be addressed until the following week.

This lab can handle most math questions up to calculus. Tutors will be happy to show students the steps to solve your questions, but will not solve the problems for them.

This lab works mostly with chemistry questions and problems, just like the regular math/science lab. Tutors will explain concepts and illustrate with examples.

You can submit a paper to be reviewed as well as ask any grammatical questions. Our tutors will not edit students' papers, but review them for common error patterns and overall problems, and return the paper.

Please note that eLab tutors will not do the work for students; they will assist in exploring trends, misconceptions, or errors in student submissions.

Becoming a Tutor

We are continuously searching for individuals to work as program tutors. The program employs WSCC students, graduates, and instructors as well as individuals from outside the institution.

Interested students must have a cumulative college grade point average of 2.75 and a "B" or higher in the course(s) to be tutored, or provide evidence of proficiency (i.e. completion of a higher level course in the subject).

Tutor pay level is dependent upon credentials and experience with the program; a list of established employment levels and corresponding hourly pay rates are available upon request.

Potential tutors can print the Application to Be a Tutor, complete it and return it to the Learning Center. Click on the link for the Application to Continue Tutoring. For Individual Tutor Logs or Group Tutor Logs click the link.
