Certificate programs at Washington State are designed as fast-track that lead to direct employment. Many can be completed in less than a year. As an additional option, students can use credit earned in the certificate programs towards an associate degree at Washington State.

1-Year Certificates

Accounting

The accounting program provides a concentration of financial and managerial accounting with related business and technology courses, utilizing manual and computerized accounting systems and current software.

Administrative Assistant (Executive or Medical)

The Administrative Assistant program is a 1 -year certificate program that can be taken either full or part-time. Courses are offered in 8-week sessions with the option of in-person, online, and blended. Graduates will earn industry recognized credentials throughout the program, including Microsoft Office Specialist in Word and Excel as well as NCSA’s Certified Customer Service Professional.

Upon completion, graduates can choose to continue for one additional year to earn their associate degree in Business Management Technology.

Automation Technician

Automation Technician certificate provides hands-on experience on equipment like CNC Mills, Rockwell PLCs, and FANUC Robotics and their corresponding software, Mastercam (CAM Software), Solidworks (CAD Software), FANUC HandlingTool (Robotics Programming), and Studio 5000 (PLC Programming). Students will have the opportunity to earn industry credentials in each of these skill sets that complement the certificate and will be valuable in the job market. The certificate provides a clear pathway for students who want to pursue an associate degree in Advanced Manufacturing & Integration Technology.

Automotive Technician

Our Automotive Technician program features a large laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment for practical, hands-on experience. Students learn the use of conventional tools, as well as the new computerized engine analyzers. A certificate in automotive technician is available to those students who complete the first year of the program. The certificate provides a clear pathway for students who want to pursue an associate degree in Automotive Service.

The Automotive Service Technology and the Diesel Truck Systems Programs are fully accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). The primary mission of NATEF is to improve the quality of automotive technician training programs nationwide through voluntary accreditation. NATEF is responsible for the program evaluation process and approves programs for NATEF Accreditation based on the results of the on-site evaluation.

Chemical Operator (Online)

This popular 32-credit hour program consists of courses covering basic mechanical systems, fundamental safety, health and environmental issues, basic math and science, workplace communications, and the computer and Internet skills necessary for online learning.

Cyber Security

The Cyber Security certificate program is a combination of criminal investigation and computer support technology. It provides you a foundation in computer network infrastructure and security, as well as cyber security and investigations. It also includes coursework in criminal justice and forensics training. Throughout the program, students will be able to earn a number of industry credentials that complement the certificate and will be valuable in the job market. The certificate provides a clear pathway for students who want to pursue an associate degree in Cyber Security.

Diesel Truck Maintenance

If you are interested in Diesel Truck Systems but would like to finish in a shorter time frame, we offer the Diesel Truck Maintenance One-Year Certificate. This certificate provides the foundation for an entry-level technician to gain employment in a myriad of industries, e.g., transportation, boats, trains, buses etc. According to a 2010 Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report, employment opportunities will see a 15 percent increase for the need for qualified diesel technicians by the year 2020.

Help Desk

Learn the fundamentals of computer support in our Help Desk certificate program. You will learn the skills and knowledge necessary to maintain computer networks as well as provide technical help to computer users and organizations. Throughout the program, students will be able to earn a number of industry credentials that complement the certificate and will be valuable in the job market. The certificate provides a clear pathway for students who want to pursue an associate degree in Cyber Security.

Massage Therapy

The Massage Therapy Certificate program prepares students for careers in the massage therapy field including health and fitness environments, salon and day spas, medical offices, private practices, and many other areas of opportunity.

The Massage Therapy program is offered as a 1-year full-time day program. Graduates of the program receive a certificate of completion, and are eligible to sit for the MBLEx National Test. To become a Licensed Massage Therapist in Ohio you must first pass the exam before applying to the state for licensure.

Medical Billing & Coding

The Medical Billing and Coding Certificate program at WSCO is just three-semesters and fully online. With credentials built into the curriculum, you will be equipped you with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain employment. The curriculum is designed for a seamless transition to those who want to build on their knowledge and earn an associate degree in Health Information Management Technology.

Peace Officer Basic Academy (POBA)

Successful completion of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission's (OPOTC) certified Peace Officer Basic Academy (POBA) program is a requirement for employment as a law enforcement professional in Ohio.

Practical Nursing Education

The Practical Nursing program is offered as either 1-year full-time day, or 2-year part-time evening classes. During the program, your studies will include both classroom and clinical experiences. Your classroom instruction will be enhanced by concurrent clinical participation at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Selby General Hospital, Harmar Place, and Heartland of Marietta. Additionally, you will gain experience through observational time with home nursing, nursery schools, physician offices, and clinics.

Small Business Entrepreneurship

The Small Business Entrepreneurship Certificate program at Washington State College of Ohio prepares current and future business owners to start or grow their own business. Our program has a flexible schedule with online and in-person course in an 8-week format. Our faculty bring decades of real world experience across multiple disciplines to the classroom.

In our program students will learn basic accounting, business law, human resources, customer service skills, and will create their own business plan.

The certificate provides a clear pathway for students who want to pursue an associate degree in Business Management.
