Demand continues to exceed available workers across the nation and Washington State's health sciences programs can prepare you to become a vital member of the healthcare team. Our classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences prepare you for careers in hospitals, laboratories, extended care facilities, rehabilitation centers, physicians' offices and related settings.
Admission to any of the health sciences programs is selective and limited. All programs require successful completion of algebra, biology and chemistry in addition to other admission criteria.

Associate Degree Nursing-Traditional Deadline Date: February 14, 2014

Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Traditional Students

Complete application for admission to Washington State Community College.

Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate.

Submit an official high school transcript or GED Certificate, and official transcripts from any college(s) attended.

Complete application form for the Associate Degree Nursing Program with admission essay by stated deadline.

Complete high school-level or college level biology with a grade of "C" or above.
-
Take the required college placement test: COMPASS and submit scores (complete all deficits). COMPASS not needed for a transfer student who has completed all required English and Math courses.

Submit ACT or SAT scores. (ACT of 20 or higher required; or SAT of 950 or higher) on verbal and math components. ACT/SAT not required for applicants with a Bachelor's degree.

Provide three (3) non-family references.

Complete Confidentiality Statement.

Complete CHEM 1210 (or equivalent) with a "C" or above prior to entry into the program.

Complete CHEM 121L (or equivalent) with a "C" or above prior to entry into the program.

In addition to the stated admission criteria, those seeking advanced placement as licensed practical nurses must complete the following:

Completed H.S. Algebra II & Biology or college level Algebra (MATH 1110), Biology 1010, and Chemistry 1210 all with a "C" or higher.

Submit ACT Composite score of 20 or greater or pass the TEAS V Nurse Entrance Test with a "Proficient" categorized score or higher. ($86 fee)

Take the placement test (COMPASS) offered by Washington State Community College in reading, writing, and math (no fee), unless equivalent classes are being transferred from another institution.

This will determine any areas which may need development work before admission to the Practical Nursing Education Program.

Upon acceptance, the applicant will be required to complete the following health requirements: complete physical, specified laboratory tests, immunizations, drug screens, and the passing of a Criminal record check.

Must have a current CPR certification which would be in effect for the academic year/years enrolled. This is to include adult, child, and infant CPR, AED and Heimlich maneuver and is offered at the college.

At least 25 hours must be completed in an inpatient facility (hospital, nursing home, rehab center) and at least 25 hours in an outpatient facility. A criminal background check, which must show that the applicant can qualify to become an EMT
First Course Meeting:

Passing a knowledge-based EMS pre-test with no less than an 80%. This test may be taken twice. The student will be told where their area(s) of weakness are prior to taking the test a second time.

Must satisfactorily complete a hands-on practical examination.

Admission is "First-Come-First-Serve" in the event of a tie; the applicant with the earliest date on the program application will be accepted first. The number of students accepted to the program is 24. This number may be decreased as determined by the Program Director in consultation with the Dean of Health Sciences and depends on available resources and accreditation guidelines.
All health programs require Healthcare Provider CPR
All programs require Algebra, Biology, and Chemistry except Massage Therapy.
