Washington State Community College

Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Traditional Students

Begins Fall

1. Complete application for admission to Washington State Community College.

2. Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate.

3. Submit an official high school transcript or GED Certificate, and official transcripts from any college(s) attended.

4. Complete application form for the Associate Degree Nursing Program with admission essay by stated deadline.

5. Complete high school-level or college level biology with a grade of "C" or above.

6. Take the required college placement test: COMPASS and submit scores (complete all deficits). COMPASS not needed for a transfer student who has completed all required English and Math courses.

7. Submit ACT or SAT scores. (ACT of 20 or higher required; or SAT of 950 or higher) on verbal and math components. ACT/SAT not required for applicants with a Bachelor's degree.

8. Provide three (3) non-family references.

9. Complete Confidentiality Statement.

10. Complete CHEM 1210 (or equivalent) with a "C" or above prior to entry into the program.

11. Complete CHEM 121L (or equivalent) with a "C" or above prior to entry into the program.

12. Complete MATH 1110 (or equivalent) with a "C" or above prior to entry into the program.

13. Complete PSYC 1010 with "C" or above prior to entry into the program.

14. GPA of 2.5 or higher when applying, and upon program entry.

Radiologic Technology

Begins Fall

1. Must be at least 18 years of age by the first day of program orientation (September)

2. Complete the WSCC admission application and COMPASS test (complete all sections).

3. Complete Radiologic Technology program application packet by February 10, 2012.

4. ACT score of 17 or better (no SAT accepted)

5. Complete H.S. or college level algebra, biology, and chemistry with a "C" or higher.

6. Submit a written request for an on-site informational session and interview.

7. Provide proof of High School Graduation (Diploma or documented H.S. transcripts) or GED if completed.

Associate Degree Nursing — Advanced Placement (LPN-RN Students)

In addition to the stated admission criteria, those seeking advanced placement as licensed practical nurses must complete the following:

1. Complete application for admission to Washington State Community College.

2. Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate.

3. Must possess current LPN licensure at time of application and admission.

4. Submit an official high school transcript or GED Certificate, and official transcripts from any college(s) attended.

5. Complete application form for the Associate Degree Nursing Program with admission essay by stated deadline.

6. Complete high school-level or college level biology with a grade of "C" or above.

7. Take the required college placement test: COMPASS and submit scores (complete all deficits). COMPASS not needed for a transfer student who has completed all required English and Math courses.

Practical Nursing (PN)

1 yr (Summer) / 2 yr (Fall)

1. Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate.

2. Completed H.S. Algebra II & Biology or college level Algebra (MATH 1110), Biology 1010, and Chemistry 1210 all with a "C" or higher.

3. Submit ACT Composite score of 20 or greater or pass the TEAS V Nurse Entrance Test with a "Proficient" categorized score or higher. ($86 fee)

4. Take the placement test (COMPASS) offered by Washington State Community College in reading, writing, and math (no fee), unless equivalent classes are being transferred from another institution.

   1. This will determine any areas which may need development work before admission to the Practical Nursing Education Program.

5. Submit application forms which include:

   1. Application to Washington State Community College

   2. Application to the Practical Nursing Education program

   3. Forms from three personal (non-family or friend) references

   4. OFFICIAL High School and/or College transcripts

   5. Form to release information to the Admission Committee

   6. Essential Functions form

6. Must have a current GPA of 2.0 or higher when applying and upon program entry.

7. Appointment with the Director of Practical Nursing Education after all forms have been submitted and accepted into the program.

8. Upon acceptance, the applicant will be required to complete the following health requirements: complete physical, specified laboratory tests, immunizations, drug screens, and the passing of a Criminal record check.

9. Must have a current CPR certification which would be in effect for the academic year/years enrolled. This is to include adult, child, and infant CPR, AED and Heimlich maneuver and is offered at the college.

Rolling admission; first come, first serve basis.

Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)

Begins Fall

1. An official program application and brief, well written essay describing why you want to be a physical therapist assistant

2. An official application for Admission to Washington State Community College

3. Official high school or GED and/or college transcripts

4. High School Biology with a C or better or College level Principles of Biology with a C or better

5. High School Chemistry with a C or better or College level Chemistry with a C or better

6. COMPASS math placement of Math 2110 Principles of Statistics or completion of Math 1110 Intermediate Algebra with a C or better

7. 3 positive recommendations (see instructions in packet)

8. Complete a minimum of 50 observation/volunteer hours. At least 25 hours must be completed in an inpatient facility (hospital, nursing home, rehab center) and at least 25 hours in an outpatient facility. Observation hours may be waived if an applicant has worked a minimum of 3 months as physical therapy aide or technician. (See instructions in packet)

9. GPA of 2.75 or better

10. Composite ACT score of 17 or better. ACT not required for those applicants with a Bachelor's degree.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B/Advanced EMT)

(EMT is a certificate program)
EMT-B (Fall) / Advanced EMT

Student in the EMT-B program must have:

1. Washington State Community College Application (complete online at www.wscc.edu/admissions/apply-now.html)

2. Completion of College Placement Test.

3. Must be a High School Senior or at least 18 years of age.

4. Completed copy of your Health Examination Form.

5. Current CPR card

   Additional Requirements for Advanced EMT Program

   1. Current EMT-Basic card from the State of Ohio

   2. Recommendation form filled out by your squad chief or other appropriate officer*

   3. A criminal background check, which must show that the applicant can qualify to become an EMT

      First Course Meeting:

   4. Passing a knowledge-based EMS pre-test with no less than an 80%. This test may be taken twice. The student will be told where their area(s) of weakness are prior to taking the test a second time.

   5. Must satisfactorily complete a hands-on practical examination.

*Some exceptions may be granted by the program coordinator.

Massage Therapy

FT day 1-yr (Summer) 

1. Complete the WSCC admission application.

2. Complete the Massage Therapy application.

3. Submit an official H.S. and/or college transcript or GED certificate and/or any college transcripts.

4. Submit three (3) positive recommendation forms.

5. Submit an essay about why you want to become a Massage Therapist.

6. Personal interview with the Massage Therapy program coordinator. Subsequent to acceptance into the Massage Therapy program

7. Background check through Marietta Memorial Hospital

8. Complete a physical examination.

Admission into program is on a first come, first serve basis.

Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)

Begins Fall

1. Complete the WSCC admission application.

2. Complete a MLT program application.

3. Submit copy of H.S. or college transcripts showing completion of introductory courses in algebra, biology, and chemistry with a grade of "C" or higher.

4. Submit an official H.S. transcript or GED certificate.

5. Submit three (3) non-family references.

6. Meet with the MLT program director.

Admission into program is on a first come, first serve basis.

Respiratory Therapy

Begins Fall

1. Complete the WSCC admission application (complete online at www.wscc.edu/admissions/apply-now.html).

2. Be a High School graduate or possess a GED.

3. Have a "C" or better in BIOL 2010 & BIOL 201L, BIOL 2310 & BIOL 231L, CHEM 1210 & CHEM 121L, and HLTH 1810.

4. Take the placement exam (unless you have taken college classes above the High School level in Algebra and English).

5. Submit to Program Director:

   1. Program application.

   2. High School Transcript (& official college transcripts if applicable) to Rob Kinker.

   3. Three References (forms provided)(mail all three together).

   4. First-come, First-serve Acknowledgement

6. Mail all three (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) together in ONE envelope to Rob Kinker.

*Physical Exam/History, Lab work, immunizations, criminal background checks, drug testing, and other requirements are due after admission.

Admission is "First-Come-First-Serve" in the event of a tie; the applicant with the earliest date on the program application will be accepted first. The number of students accepted to the program is 24. This number may be decreased as determined by the Program Director in consultation with the Dean of Health Sciences and depends on available resources and accreditation guidelines.
