Jar with label college and money.

MARIETTA, OH (June 20, 2017)—When considering college options, one of the biggest concerns students and their families have is how to pay for their education. Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) has partnered with Washington-Morgan Community Action and Washington County Job and Family Services to provide an overview of the wide array of options available to cover the expenses associated with getting a degree, called Cash for College.

The informative event is set for Thursday, June 29 at 6 pm and will be held on the Washington State campus in the Community Room, located in the Main Building. Open to everyone, regardless of where they plan to attend college, the event will showcase the wide variety of federal, state, and local resources that are available to help pay for college and other educational expenses.

“It’s a cause for concern when I’m reading research that says that more than 60% of students who didn’t apply for financial aid did so because they just didn’t understand how to apply or that they were even eligible for aid,” acknowledged Reba Bartrug, Interim Director of Financial Aid at WSCO. “Statistics like that are exactly the reason for our Cash for College seminar.”

The most recent research from National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS:12) showed that 20% of all undergraduate students did not apply for financial aid in 2011-12.

“It’s our goal to make students and parents aware of the vast financial aid resources that exist. This isn’t just about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA),” she assured. “We’ve partnered with Washington-Morgan Community Action and Washington County Job and Family Services in an effort to show people just how broad the scope of assistance that’s available.”

Bartrug went on to further emphasize the value of the partnership with these agencies, citing their expertise on local resources, which will benefit students of all ages who may be considering college, including adults who may be looking for retraining options for new career opportunities.

Anyone interested in attending the event can RSVP at wscc.edu/financial or by calling 740.568.1900.
