MARIETTA—Washington State Community College (WSCC) inducted three members into its newly established national honor society for the profession of respiratory care, the Lambda Beta Society.
Tanner Booth, Brianna Gardner, and Michelle Isaacs are the first inductees to the WSCC chapter.
“The three nominated students each lead in distinct ways and more than deserve the accolades they’ve earned. I am delighted to honor them for their hard work and thrilled that they are bringing attention to our profession in such a positive way,” said Adrienne Hellinger, WSCC’s Director of Respiratory Therapy and Lambda Beta advisor. “Respiratory therapists must be committed and reliable leaders in the healthcare field, and we start building that foundation right here at Washington State,” she continued.
To qualify for membership, a respiratory care student must have completed 50% of their respiratory care courses and hold a GPA that ranks in the top 25% of the respiratory class. The individual must be of good character and be nominated by faculty or officers from a Lambda Beta chapter.
“We are excited to have launched a new chapter of the Lambda Beta Society on campus. Nominating students for this prestigious honors society demonstrates Washington State Community College’s commitment to rewarding student leaders who are not only high academic achievers but those who lead with integrity as well. Induction into this society is a symbol of the student’s hard work and provides new opportunities for scholarships and funding for future research,” Hellinger added.
Sponsored and maintained by the National Board of Respiratory Care, the Lambda Beta Society was formed in 1986 to promote, recognize and honor scholarship, scholarly achievement, service, and character of students, graduates, and faculty members of the respiratory care profession. Lambda (Λ) is the Greek letter “L”, and beta (Β) is the Greek letter “B”, which symbolize life and breath – the foundations of the profession. WSCC’s Lambda Beta chapter is one of more than 150 chapters established in respiratory care programs across the United States.
