MARIETTA, OH (Jan. 2, 2018)– Kendra Knight could quite possibly be considered an expert when it comes to staying organized. One of the secrets to her success is multiple color-coded calendars. Her time management diligence keeps her on her A-game. And it’s her A-game that got her recognized as Washington State College of Ohio’s (WSCO) January Student of the Month.
Settling into her final semester of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program at WSCO, Knight admits she has a multitude of expectations placed upon her time.
“There is a lot of information to retain in very short time periods. It requires a lot of arranging to fit in studying time, finishing assignments, clinicals, completing other classwork, working, and adding in personal time. You have to stay super organized and task-oriented as an ADN student,” Knight explained.
Undeniably the work-load is great, but her desire to become a nurse is greater. In fact, it’s something she’s wanted to do her whole life. “I have wanted to be a nurse ever since I could remember as a child,” said Knight.
And while this Parkersburg resident’s calendar keeps her in all the right places at the right time, she credits her success to her desire to reach out and help others. “I keep my passion for being a nurse ahead of all the stressful situations that come along with nursing school. Being passionate about what you’re doing is a major driving force in being successful. When things get a little too hectic, I take a moment to remember why I started this process to begin with. When I do that, it puts my focus back on the tasks I have to complete and it pushes me to do it to my fullest potential.”
Tracey Bogard, Assistant Professor of WSCO’s ADN program and Knight’s nominator, spoke with high acclaim about her stellar student.
“Kendra is a very strong and steady student,” she described. “She strives for high standards and always has a plan for where she wants to go next.”
Kendra is set to graduate in May 2018 and has plans to enroll in Ohio University’s online Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
