Emily Geogerian, WSCO July 2017 Student of the Month

MARIETTA, OH– Washington State College of Ohio’s (WSCO) July student of the Month is a Wonder Woman of sorts. Emily Geogerian is a super-physically fit mom of six who manages to stay on top of her health, her family and an assortment of extra-curricular activities and still successfully has a wow-worthy performance in the classroom.

By day, you’ll find Geogerian in the classroom finishing the final leg of the Massage Therapy program at WSCO. Here, like in all aspects of her life, she has high expectations for herself and invests a great deal of time in the library ensuring she’s prepared for class. She’s the first to admit that she doesn’t do anything halfway, especially learning. “There’s always more to learn,” Geogerian confessed, “and I tend to go overboard with too many commitments and passions.” She also quickly credits her success to the support and understanding of her family.

Her compulsion to be the best has earned her top accolades from the Massage Therapy program director Brenton DeWees. “She is one of the best students I have ever had in 12 years at WSCO,” he admitted. “To the best of my knowledge, she’s only missed a total of three questions on tests in my classes over the past two semesters. She displays a level of professionalism that is unsurpassed,” he praised.

In addition to being a mom of six kids, taking classes full-time, being active in her church, she’s also a CrossFit enthusiast and knows its importance to her life. “Any mom has to learn how to manage all that there is to manage and still take care of herself,” she explained.

CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen that incorporates elements of high-intensity interval training, weightlifting and calisthenics, to name a few. It’s a workout that, as she explained, requires a lot of mobility. But she admits it wasn’t until she was actually in the massage classroom that she connected the value of massage with CrossFit. “[Massage] fits with what I’m already passionate about—helping people be active.”

Geogerian is set to graduate from the Massage Therapy program later this month with plans to set up her massage practice in two locations including the local Crossfit gym.
