Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) and the AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides will honor local first responders and Veterans and commemorate the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks during an upcoming ceremony on campus

MARIETTA, OHIO (September 9, 2019)—Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) and the AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides will honor local first responders and Veterans and commemorate the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks during an upcoming ceremony on campus.

The tribute will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 10:30 a.m. on the front lawn of the WSCO campus and will be open to the public. Proceedings will include presentations by the Marietta High School Vocal Point Choir, The Marine Corps League Sgt. Bob O’Malley Detachment 1436, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5108, and The American Legion Post 64. Speakers will include Senator Frank Hoagland, Marietta Mayor Joe Matthews, and WSCO graduate and EMT first responder Tiffany Jarvis.

The ceremony, part of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance, will be led by AmeriCorps College Guide Hannah Kitchen. September 11th was designated a national day of service by the 2009 Kennedy Serve America Act. The Corporation for National and Community Service leads the annual event, working with Serve Ohio, MyGoodDeed and hundreds of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, and schools and businesses nationwide.
