MARIETTA, OHIO—Dr. Jona Hall joins the leadership team of Washington State College of Ohio as its new Dean of Transfer and Public Services.
Dr. Hall has invested her career in education, working for more than 20 years in the public school sector where she served in many capacities from teacher, principal, and ultimately the Director of Curriculum and Technology for Marietta City Schools. In that role she led teachers, interacted with the community, and improved teaching and learning through curriculum development. She credits this experience as providing her a seamless transition to higher education. “I have enjoyed the past six years of my career working with adults, specifically professional development and working with teachers,” said Dr. Hall. “That has led me into wanting to continue working with adults and adult students.”
In her new role as Dean of Transfer and Public Services, Hall said, “I hope to be able to support students to be able to live out a dream for themselves and better themselves professionally. If I can help someone recognize their potential, it benefits not only that person but their entire family.”
Among her first orders of business, Hall is working to revitalize the Peace Officer Basic Academy (POBA). As fewer people are choosing a career in law enforcement, she is researching best practices, engaging local law enforcement officials, and developing professional relationships that will help in the strategy to invigorate interest in the career pathway.
“Jona will be instrumental in strengthening our connections and partnerships with the community and other institutions of learning. These relationships will result in greater opportunities for our students and growth for Washington State,” said WSCO President Dr. Vicky Wood.
Hall earned her Doctorate in Comparative and International Studies in Educational Leadership from Ohio University. She received her Master in Education from Marygrove College, as well as her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University. Additionally, she earned her Administrative Licensure in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton.
