Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) will host an open house during In-Demand Jobs Week to educate the community about how the institution prepares students for careers with the greatest opportunities in today’s job market.

MARIETTA, OHIO (May 3, 2019)--Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) will host an open house during In-Demand Jobs Week to educate the community about how the institution prepares students for careers with the greatest opportunities in today’s job market.

On Thursday, May 9 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, WSCO will offer campus tours and provide insight on careers with wide-open employment opportunities. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with faculty and learn about programs and credentialing offered by the college. They will also have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with several trainers on campus, including the firearms simulator and virtual welder.

“Washington State College of Ohio trains students for hands-on careers that lead to in-demand jobs,” said Brenda Kornmiller, WSCO’s Dean of Business, Engineering, Public Service & Liberal Arts. “Our students are provided many opportunities to interact with local business and industry through internship and practicum experiences. They are given opportunities to tour local industries and hear from industry leaders who visit our classes and talk about different career types and job opportunities.” Kornmiller went on to explain that the college’s objective is to keep students results-focused, with achievements moving them one step closer to the goal of starting a career.

Jobs considered in demand have a high number of open positions with favorable projected growth and competitive wages. Ohio has in-demand jobs in more than 200 occupations across a wide range of industries.

In addition to meeting instructors and seeing the facilities, those who attend the open house will also have the opportunity to talk with students and alumni about academic experiences and how their education has helped them in their careers. All attendees can register to win a 3-credit hour scholarship (must be a new student for summer or fall 2019 and registered by August 19), a project management class, or an OSHA 30 course.

“We saw In-Demand Jobs Week as a great opportunity to show the community how Washington State prepares its graduates for rewarding careers with employers who are actively recruiting,” Kornmiller said.
