MARIETTA, OH (Feb. 8, 2018)– The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program at Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) recently proved it could hold its own among nursing school giants across Ohio, by ranking in the top 10.
The Ohio Board of Nursing recently released the scores of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and WSCO has a 95% pass rate. The near-perfect score earned the College recognition from RegisteredNursing.org. This website ranked WSCO #7 among the 89 registered nursing programs in Ohio.
This ranking was based on current and historical pass rate data gathered from all the registered nursing programs in the state. “Nursing programs were assessed on several factors which represent how well a program supports students towards licensure and beyond,” said Sally Worthington, Outreach Coordinator of RegisteredNursing.org. “We analyzed past and present first-time NCLEX-RN pass-rates, weighted by year,” she continued.
Because of the way RegisteredNursing.org analyzed the data, WSCO was pitted against much larger institutions, including The Ohio State (#9), Miami University (#63), Kent State (#80) and Ohio University (#58), and had a much higher success.
WSCO’s NCLEX-RN pass rate is an average of 97.05% based on scores from the past three years. This is nearly 12% higher than the national average and almost 15% higher than state averages. In fact, in addition to having some of the state’s highest licensure pass rates, WSCO’s associate degree nursing program has a 100% job placement rate.
The explanation for the program’s success is simple said Darla Boone, WSCO’s ADN Program Director. “We are a very small program, so we can give our students more individualized attention.”
She went onto explain that the instructors set the expectation high for their students to ensure they’re ready professionally, “We have exceptional standards. We work hard to help our students achieve the passing standard that is going to make them successful.”
The NCLEX-RN is an indicator that graduates are proficient in the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for safe and effective entry-level nursing practice. Following the successful completion of the exam, nurses can practice in the state where he or she attended school and can also apply for reciprocity to other states for a fee without retesting.
Graduates of WSCO’s ADN program have the option to continue their education and pursue a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college. They can also go directly to work in doctor’s offices, extended care facilities, hospitals, department of rehabilitation and corrections, home health and others.
The WSCO Associate Degree Nursing program is currently accepting applications through Feb. 16 at noon. Advanced placement applications are due September 1 at noon.
